Join Swingout OKC On November 3rd for a drop-in beginner swing dance lesson and social from 7-10 PM. Admission is $5 to be paid at the door. The Dock Bar will be open and available for refreshments!

About SwingOut OKC:

Mission: Swingout OKC is dedicated to facilitating, sustaining, and growing the swing dance community of the greater Oklahoma City area by providing educational and social swing dance opportunities. We strive to promote a forward thinking scene while preserving the historical culture of the dance. 

Vision: Become a community hub for all forms of swing dance, spurring integration of the diverse people of the greater Oklahoma City area through intentional outreach and fostering a safe and welcoming community for education and expression in the form of swing and jazz dance.

Values: We greatly value inclusion of all people regardless of gender presentation, religion, sexuality, age, race, or creed. We lead with the historical context of swing dancing as a Black American dance that is connected to jazz music.

Set-up: A double-six domino set (28 tiles) is used. Players typically draw 7 dominoes each. The remaining tiles form the "boneyard".

Starting the Game: The player with the highest double (double-six, then double-five, and so on) usually starts, or the player with the double-six can initiate the play.

Gameplay: Players take turns placing dominoes, matching the number on one end of the layout. Doubles are placed crosswise.

Passing: If a player cannot make a match, they draw from the boneyard until they can play or the boneyard is empty.

Ending the Round: The round ends when a player empties their hand or the game is blocked (no one can play).

Scoring: If a player empties their hand, their team scores points based on the remaining dominoes in the opponents' hands. If the game is blocked, the team with the lowest total pip count on their remaining dominoes wins the round and scores points based on the opponents' total.

Game End: Games are often played to a predetermined score (e.g., 100 or 200 points) or to a set number of rounds (e.g., 4 games in Chiva).

Variations: Some variations include special bonus points for playing the last domino on both sides of the layout (Capicu) or for playing the double-blank as the last domino (Chuchaso).

Join SwingOut OKC for vintage swing dance classes every 3rd Monday of the month. 

 Lesson: 7pm 

 Social dancing from 8pm-10pm
